Can I quit AOL and use Outlook as my primary email

Does anybody know if I can just cancel AOL and use Outlook express on its own
and keep my AOL screen name?

Thanks!

You mean use aol for email if you cancel the account? No. you'll need at
least their $3.95/mo email plan and another ISP.

This isn't the correct group for Outlook Express questions.

You have to have a mail server that hosts your mailbox. If you don't use
AOL, you have to use someone else, like SBC, Verizon, Comcast, Adelphia,
Yahoo, BT Internet, or the like. If you sign up with another service and
your screen name is not already in use for that service, I don't know why
they wouldn't let you use it, but your address would not longer end in
aol.com. It would be sncglobal.net, verizon.net, comcast.com, or whatever
the ISP's domain happens to be.

I heard that AOL is going to let existing screen names to have free e-mail.
I have never used OE to get AOL mail.

I have a Yahoo.com email address that's free. It's virtually the same as the
AOL email name. Could I just do it that way, and, if so, how do I go about
it? I am just tired of paying 24.95 (I use it for business and transferring
audio files). Thanks for any reply!

Diane, if I do the 3.95, will that limit me? I want to save $$, and I do
24.95 because I'm online LOTS. I use it for legal work. But I'd like to
quit paying AOL every month. Do you know if, in using Outlook, if I pay 3.95
if I will get just a limited time online??

You can cancel AOL, but if this is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) you
will lose all internet access, which includes your access to email.

Yuo need some service provider in order to allow you to connect to the
Internet. Whether it's AOL or someone else doesn't matter. In either case
you'll have to pay someone. There are many ISPs, like Netscape, Netzero,
MSN, and the ones I've already mentioned. Netzero, for example, has a $9.95
plan. You'll have to do some shopping. Start, perhaps, with your phone
company. The probably offer an Internet service as well.

AOL isn't the cheapest, but you'll still need to pay someone.

On a different domain. Not a good solution for people who want to keep the
same email address.
