Can I make a hotkey for certain text so I can quickly paste it?

For example, I have to use the "§" a lot and it would be nice to have it
assigned to a permanent hotkey so I can paste it whenever I need to into a
document. Is that possible?

You could type ALT+0167 from the numeric keypad but I would probably save it
as an autocorrect entry for (say) #s

In Word 2002 it's:

Insert > Symbol > Shortcut key

On my system I've associated it with CTRL-SHIFT-S.

If you are using the Insert | Symbol dialog to insert the section symbol,
perhaps you have not noticed the Shortcut Key... button at the bottom that
opens the Customize Keyboard dialog, in which you can assign a shortcut key
for any selected symbol. The section symbol is one that is listed on the
Special Characters tab, so it is easy to select it there and then click
Shortcut Key...
