I just ran my "recovery discs" and put everything back to "New"- my aol went
back to 8.0, and my sp2 went to sp1-needing updates! Can't I just download
sp2 without updating sp1?? I have ver.-2002 sp1 orig installed. I have
dial-up Aol- 5 HOURS of SP1 updates is what I'm looking at. Right?

Yes. There is no need at all to install SP1 first.

Given your situation (dialup) I would suggest this: Find a friend or a
nearby business with a hi-speed connection and a CD burner. Have them
download the XP SP2 IT/Administrative install and burn it to CD. Install
SP2 from that CD, not from download. Put the CD away with your restore
CDs.

Here is the link for the admin download. It is big, about 275 meg:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/winxpsp2.mspx

or search on Google for 'XP SP2 IT download'

Take the file that says :"download and Deploy Service Pack 2 to Multiple
Computers"

which takes you to:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

This tactic can ultimately save you quite a bit of hassle.

Yes, it will. The same SP2 works for both Home and Pro. That is, there is
really only one SP2, and it covers both Home and Pro.
