Can I delete old programs from the Startup list in "msconfig"?

I would like to know if it is possible to delete old programs from the
Startup list in "msconfig". The programs have been unchecked but they remain
listed there. I would like to completely delete them from the list.

You don't accomplish anything by removing those lines from the System
Configuration Utility. The program is still installed on your computer.
Merely removing the line from the System Configuration Utility is like
cutting the label from your shirt: The shirt is the same as it always
was, it just doesn't have a label.

If you don't want the program, uninstall it: Put the checkmarks back in
and restart your computer. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
and uninstall the programs, one program at a time. After you've
uninstalled a program, restart your computer, then uninstall the next one.

You can use Spybot Search and Destroy to select or un-select entries
just as you would with MSConfig. However, Spybot will also allow you to
delete the entries as well. I can see where you may not want to unistall
the program, you just do not want it to run at start up.
