Can I change the black spaces on the sides of my slides?

Can I change the black spaces on the sides of my slides?

Sounds as if you might be viewing a 4x3 aspect-ratio file on a wide-screen
display. That would cause black bars on either side when the file is being
presented (in slide show view). Is that the problem you're trying to
resolve, or is it something else?

Actually, I'm working with a company template that looks like it's using an
8.5 x 11 paper-like page format. But, you are right about the wide-screen -
it's on a laptop. Are there any fixes for this?

Well, I thought changing the resolution in Slide Show | Set Up Show might do
the trick, but it doesn't. So it must be a setting on the display itself. I
know there's a setting that does this for external projectors, but I can't
seem to locate what will work without toggling to a dual laptop/projector
view. Then it stretches on the laptop, but I don't know how to force that
without the 2nd monitor attached.

You might just have to check your video card documentation. Hopefully
someone more knowledgeable in this area will pop in with some ideas, though.

museum postcards to the sides and call it a day. . .

As the technology's development, wide-screen monitors are almost everywhere these days, especially for notebook PC. My new PC has a wide-screen monitor. But when I make PowerPoint, I find that it seems to make slides fit for tradition 4:3 monitors. So it make the slide shows look strange. I do not like the black spaces around the showing slide. How do I set up PowerPoint to show wide-screen compatible slides?


Solution
1. Open your PowerPoint presentation
2. Click "Design" > "Page Setup".
3. You will get a dialog box to set up the factors
4. In the box, choose "Slides sized for : on-screen show (16:9)" or "(16:10)". Then click on "OK".
5. You will find the slide have some small changes comparing with the slide in step1.
6. Test the slide show, you can get the satisifying result: they can fit wide-screen monitors.
7. If you use PowerPoint 2003 or even earlier version, I briefly give some steps.
8. Select "File" > "Page Setup".
9. Then choose "Custom" option, and select either 16:9 or 16:10 again to fit with the monitor.
Tips
Setting the PowerPoint to fit with the wide-screen monitor can not only give better presentation, and also make your audience feel more comfortable. Though it is just a small and simple change, you can benefit a lot. Whatever, details makes perfect.
