can i change format of access file ?

Through Excel I used "Get external data", when prompted I selected "New
database" & browsed to my .mdb file in Access 97 that I want to use. Actually
I used the create button. After that when I tried to open my .mdb file using
access I got the message " Unrecognized format". Did I lost my Access file
for good?

Very possibly. I've seen people destroy an access database by trying to open
it with Word then saving it as a Word document.

When I first started database work I was told to have two things: (1) A
good, workable backup and recovery plan or (2) a good resume as you are going
to need a new job.

When did you last make a backup?
