Can do this with the Word Reference Library?

Got some nice code from Stephen Bullen to get a Picture Object in for
example an image control.
It is written for Excel and will need the Excel object library.
I wonder if this could be re-written for Word so that I don't have to
install the Excel library in Word>

Hi RB,

This is all Windows API code. There's nothing here that references
Excel. You should be able to copy this code module into Word and have it
work exactly the same way it does in Excel. Stephen has probably included
some Excel code that demonstrates how to use it, which is where the Excel
reference is coming from.

Leaving the Excel library out will give a compile error, variable not
defined at the line:

Function PastePicture(Optional lXlPicType As Long = xlPicture) As IPicture

Highlighting xlPicture.

OK, thanks, I understand now.
They are Excel constants so after a few alterations to the code
I can use it now in Word without the Excel library.

Exactly. They're just two constants I used to decide whether to paste the bitmap or the metafile from the clipboard, so they're only used in the
lines:

Those could be change to take a boolean if you want a bitmap:
