wmiprvse.exe and indexsearcher.exe is taking up 100% of my cpu on one work
station and wmiprvse and svsehost are doing the same on a second machine I
connected to my domain also running at 100%. I have to wait for far too many
minutes to do anything except watch my processor burn up. When I disable the
services they come right l'ike roaches in the city and 'will not go away.
Itry to kill the dependent processes and I get the same result.

All I am finding is information on SMS server but I have sbs2003 with all of
the latest patches and it is runnig at a cool 11% no matter what I do, except
for spikes when I am doing something like opening up a program.

In my event log I get a lot of errors about winmgt #5603 and #47 also error #
perflib #2003

My problems begain about a week ago with outlook 2007 being almost 3gb but
I found utilities to trim it down and that was just the beginning of my woes.
I used basic start up to later discover my restoration was turned off so I
can go back to the past. I ran all kinds of scans and found nothing. No
malware no virus.

All I have found, as I said, was solutions for SMS and lots of people trying
to sell "registry scans and fixes", for sale of course.

I had network monitoring tools on the server and removed them due to another
suggestion I found elsewhere in news groups. I have not checked the
workstations yet but I have little faith that will be the solution.

Please help my processor is burning up.

Maybe Process Explorer will help you dig deeper and find the specific
process/sub-process or application that's taking all
the CPU resources and slowing down your PC.

Download link to Process Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Once you have Process Explorer installed and running:
In the taskbar select View and check 'Show Process Tree' and 'Show Lower
Pane' options.
Then expand the process named 'Explorer' (click on the + sign)
In the column on the left named 'CPU', look for any high CPU usage.
Next click on the CPU column to sort the processes by %CPU usage (Highest to
Lowest).
Then click on the process that's using most or all the CPU % the highlight
it,
Now that it's highlighted, right click and from the options listed select:
Search Online
This should display what out there on the web about that process.
You can also double click on any process to open up a more detailed
'Properties' window.

Note: some entries like Explorer and System/Services and some Svchost
entries may need to be expanded to show the detail,
(sub processes), in this case click on the + located to the left of the
entry.

For example:
Next move the mouse cursor over the Svchost.exe process that you are
interested in.
Or expand the Svchost entry if you see a + sign to the left of Svchost
entry.
(You should now see a pop up with a list of services associated with the
Svchost.exe you chose)
Next double click on the Svchost.exe process that you are interested in.
The 'Properties' Window should now be displayed with numerous tabs
available.
