Can a CD be copied to a HDD and be read just like the CD it came f

I get tired of putting the same CD into the computer whenever I want to copy
something from it or install another application. How can I make a copy to
my HDD and access it as any CD in a CD drive? I don't know enough about ISO
images and all the other esoteric things. Maybe it can be done that way.

Does anyone know what I mean? With the huge HDD I have it seems only
efficient to be able to put a CD containing a few hundred megabytes of data
right onto the HDD.

Is there a special software package needed for this? I have Sonic v. 7.0 on
my machine and it can make an ISO copy. But I can't open it up when I try.

Sorry, just a newbie with a puzzle.

You need to get emulation software like Alcohol 120 or Alcohol 52 and make
an iso from the CD or DVD and mount it in Alcohol or whatever CD emulation
software you get. To open an iso you need something like UltraISO but you
only need that if you want to manipulate the ISO. It all depends what you
want to do exactly.

Please repost if you find the fault

Depending on the CD and its protection features you may simply be able to
copy all the files to a directory on the hard drive (I have successfully
done this with MS Office 97, 2000, 2002 & 2003, Adobe Acrobat and many other
programs that have a multiple install license.) Some programs can be
installed to a virtual CD like Rick stated. Others may be copied to the
hard drive using the other software that Glen and Support stated (I don't
know anything about those programs). Some may not be able to be copied at
all due to protection (generally a manufactured fault in the file structure
which is required to be there but since it can't be copied....)

-- Thank you "Nut Case!!" I did the search and found two free programs and
now I'm in business. The links are here for those who also might want to do
this--

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpvirtualcd.html
(this is the program that sets up the virtual drive.)

http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
(this is the program that creates the ISO image.)

It takes a little fooling around but it works! I have transferrred two CDs
already and I can open them and use them as if they were in the CD drive of
my desktop.

I will load up about 20 more! Hooray for big disks!

Thank you for your help,

-- Duh! Why didn't I think of this? All the virtual CD/mount/iso stuff
isn't necessary. At least for the two disks I just tried. I just copied
them to a folder and clicked on the setup.exe file and bingo! I'm sure there
will be some where I have to go through the more complex process but this
sure is easy. Thanks!
Thank you for your help,

I look at virtual CD and it says it won't work on most copywrited CDs. I
guess that would include MS Flight Simulator CD. Anyone know if that's
true. No use going to all that trouble if it won't work.
