Camera wizard

I have tried everything on Yves post to get the camera wizard to work but no
luck. The issue I am having is it recognizes the camera but never assigns a
drive letter. If I click on the camera in My Computer, I eventually get a
message that it can not connect to the scanner or camera. I have updated the
Bios and all the device drivers. I have uninstalled the USB and reinstalled
but nothing works. Please help

Then answer two questions.
1. Camera model, manufacturer?
2. The Autoplay worked before and now stopped working?

The camera I use is a Canon A80. I have tried using Canon's WIA but it did
not help. I have been using this camera on two other XP computers. The
Autoplay did work on this computer up until about three weeks ago. There are
some system checkpoints in the system restore but it does not show any
specific software changes. I did install SP2 and all other updates a couple
of days ago with the other updates I mentioned to see if that would fix it.
I think Autoplay would work if the OS would assign the camera a drive letter.

At this point, I don't know. I don't know why XP lists the camera under My
Computer with no drive letter. I know this can happen, but normally if you
double click on the camera name it will open and then show you a folder, you
double click on it and you see another folder and you double click on it and
now you see your files and you can select them and copy them to your hard
drive. At least this is a way to get the photo files on your hard drive. You
are not on a server, possibly preventing XP to assign a drive letter, so I
really am not sure why not. Canon A80 is a widely used camera and obviously
you have been at the Canon site for help. Maybe somebody here had the same
problem and could help. And if not, purchase a USB card reader as the
ultimate solution.

Thanks for your time and help. This has confused me too. When I click on
the camera unser My Computer it takes a good 2 to 3 minutes then I get the
message "cannot connect to scanner or camera". I think I am going to use one
of those restore points. If that does not work a re-install. I will come
back and re-post with my results.

I finally found out the problem. I have a Lexmark printer and it has some
software it loads on start-up. I disabled that software on start-up and the
camera worked. The Lexmark software was partially taking control of the
camera. I have been using the camera and the printer for about six months
with no problem. I am assuming the Lexmark software updated itself and then
the problem started. The printer works find without the program loading on
start-up. Thanks so much for your help. Many times, bouncing ideas around
can help resolve an issue and you definately helped.
