Calendar will not allow entering new appointments

I've seen this issue raised by others but the suggested fixes have not worked
and I am looking for alternatives. When a user tries to add a new appt.
nothing happens. What I noticed was that when Outlook was closed, the
Outlook.exe process was still running in task manager. If I end this process
and re-open Outlook the problem is fixed. However, it occurs again within a
day or two. The users who are experiencing this problem are all using
ActiveSync and Pocket PCs which in the course my research has been suggested
as the possible cause. The suggested reason being that ActiveSync is
accessing Outlook even after Outlook has been closed and blocking user access
to the calendar while Outlook is open.

Please help if you can, the execs are getting crabby. Thank you.

Well, I use a PocketPC (Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003) and ActiveSync (both
3.7 and 3.8) and while it is true that outlook.exe continues to run as long
as the PDA is cradled, I can close the Outlook window and restart without
affecting my ability to add new items in any folder. Try to isolate it from
ActiveSync by uncradling the PDA.
