Calendar shows a "(1)" next to it. . .unopened item?

When I open the Calendar area in my Outlook 2003, the section that shows "My
Calendars" (ie Calender, Calendar in Personal Folder, etc), has a "(1)" in
blue next to the first selection "Calendar". I've never seen this before,
and it looks like it's trying to tell me there' an unopened item, but I have
no idea how to open it.

You're correct in how you're interpreting the number. There is a new item in
your calendar. Displaying your calendar in a table view like By Category or
Events should allow you to locate it more easily. Alternatively, you could
simply right-click the Calendar folder and choose Mark All as Read.
