Calendar item not saving

M

M Altmann

We have a power user in Outlook 2003 who suddenly can not save a calendar
appointment. He can start one, so its not the Forms cache - we've already
tried clearing that. But when he goes to close and save - it says that the
item can not be saved.

Has anyone come across this in 2003? Why? he's been using 03 for a few
motnhs now, this just started today (1/26)
Thanx,
-Monica

I am having a similar or the same problem with Office XP. I reformated and imported my old data file. The file had been corrupted, but I was able to use the Inbox repair tool to get most of my data. I still cannot save to my calendar. I was wondering if any one had any ideas how to fix this issue. Thanks.

What is the exact message that the user sees when he tries to save an
appointment?

He's not been clear on that and he's out of the office right now. Only that
it read "unable to save entry".
I haven't been able to reach him to see if this has persisted over night.
Have you seen this before?

No, I haven't seen it. That's why we need all the specific details you can
provide. Other useful informaiton would be where he's trying to save it,
whether this is in an exchange mailbox or PST and if exchange, whether it's
in cached mode.

Its an Exchange Mailbox, Exchange 5.5 and I'm not sure about the cache mode,
since I can't reach him. Sorry. He's in Boston and I am trying to help him
from Dallas. None of our own LAN guys or Mail Server guys has a clue on
this.

The message is "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." I have resarted Outlook countless times. Then when I close the dialoge box and close the calendar entry it askes me if I want to save it. If I click yes I get the same message. I hope this helps more.

And this is what version of Outlook? A folder in a mailbox? Public folder?

The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does not quote earlier
messages in the thread, making your latest message so short on detail that
you risk not getting the answer you're looking form. Please take the time to
quote the original message and include all the details that someone might
need to understand the context of the problem.

Personal folder = mailbox? PST file?

Error = ?

I am running Windows XP with Office 2002 on my desktop computer. I am pull my mail from a POP3 server. All of my information is stored on my computer in the PST file. I reformated and imported my old data file. The file had been corrupted, but I was able to use the Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to recover most of my data. When I try to add an event to my calendar I get an error message that says "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Then when I close the error dialoge box and then close the calendar entry it askes me if I want to save it. If I click yes I get the same error message. I have restarted Outlook and this does nothing to improve the problem. Let me know if you need any other information.

First thing to try is Help | Detect and Repair.

Does it work OK in a new profile with a new, empty PST file?

What build of Outlook 2002? Check Help | About. Getting up to date with the
latest service pack might help.
