cable modem very slow

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew what could be the
cause of the cable modem moving extremely slow, by that
meaning .60kbs when it should be at least 50kbs? I am
moving so slow on the internet its driving me nuts.
Please help.

I assume you mean 150kbs. Have you checked to ensure you haven't got a virus
or spyware, these can be transmitting other data on top of what you want to
receive.

another possibility is your ISP is capping your bandwidth. Optimum online is
famous for that so you may want to check with your ISP and see if their
small print includes anything about bandwidth capping. You can also do a web
search for *Bandwidth capping *** your ISP name here*** without the start.
You may be surprised with what you find. Try resetting your modem by
unplugging it for a minute (or if it is equipped...there would be a little
pinhole that is for resetting) and then reboot. If you are blazing fast
again, youv'e been capped and they will eventually get it capped again. As
far as virus' slowing you down....its possible so run a virus scan also

Dave,

my cable modem sometimes drops in speed drastically. I'v found that
simply resetting the modem cures it (power off power back on)

to do this without re booting I disable the local area network using
local area connection in the control panel then re-enabeling after the
modem has powered back up

hope that helps
