C:\Windows\System32\SafeBoot.sys - Corrupt?

While putting a Windows XP SP3 RIS image onto an HP EliteBook 6930p I
received the following error after a reboot, "Windows could not start because
the following file is missing or corrupt: C:\Windows\System32\SafeBoot.sys".

Anyone seen this before or know why it's happening?

It is a corrupt or damaged Registry causing this issue

Actually it would be amazingly uncommon for this to be the case - most
likely the file is missing, and it's nothing to do with the registry
at all.

I am attempting to Riprep a HP6930P. It always stops on SAFEBOOT.SYS with a
sharing violation. If you select retry it goes on, but it never actually
copies the file to the image. After restore, it boots to a missing or corrupt
SAFEBOOT.SYS. The file is actually missing. I have not been able to determine
the service or process which is locking this file. Have you?

The SAFEBOOT.SYS is part of the HP Security Suite. There are two ways to
solve your problem.
Deinstall the Drive Encrytion and Security Suite and re-image.
Insert a copy of SAFEBOOT.SYS in the RIS server image.
\\RISserver\d$\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\<imagefolder>\i386\Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

I've tested both methods with success.

Windows Xp Pro SP3 on my HP EliteBook 8730w can't start because is
missing or corrupt the file SafeBoot.sys. But I can't find the
file to replace, could someone share this file? Or where can I
find it? In the Driver Recovery DVD there's not!

I don't have a file by that name on any of my computers. A quick google
search finds references to it being associated with a third party disk
encryption program sold by McAfee. It's not a standard Windows file or
issue, it's a McAfee issue. You might have better luck if you contact
their support department.

Hi everyone,

Windows Xp Pro SP3 on my HP EliteBook 8730w can't start because is
missing or corrupt the file SafeBoot.sys. But I can't find the file to
replace, could someone share this file? Or where can I find it? In the
Driver Recovery DVD there's not!

If it`s only just reported this , try doing a system restore to when
it was working .

What we did to resolve the issue was to disable the Express Card Slot option via BIOS. We can do this by going to System BIOS :

System Confurigution --- Port Option -- Express Card Slot -- Off
