C:/Windows.old

Hello,

On my C: drive I have a C:/windows.old directory as well as a C:/windows
directory.

The 'old' directory was last modified many months ago.

C:/Windows takes up 9+GB
C:/Windows.old takes up 14+GB

Q: Can I safely delete 'Windows.old' from my PC?

Hi,

Windows.old contains the remnants of an installation that you either
upgraded or did a reinstall of Vista. If you are satisfied that you have
recovered any data from it that you wish to save, then you can safely delete
it.

Yes, you can. Those were the files from your old install that you upgraded
from. Make sure you get the data that you need from that folder, if any.

You can also use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool in System Tools to get rid of
that folder.

Thanks for your reply. I used the Disk Cleanup utility and cleared out the
old Windows installation plus a whole load of other stuff too. Lots more free
space now available :)
