C:\searchpage.html?

My OS is Win XP Home. At startup of IE I get a dialog box saying ///C:/searchpage.html can not be found. After clicking OK, IE starts up and I need to manually click on the homepage icon in the toolbar for a page to loadup (www.msn.com). Oddly, if I select Tools Internet options, my home page is listed as: c:\searchpage.html#1507. Of course I then change that to http://www.msn.com. And if I close down IE and restart it, everything is normal. However upon a reboot, the problem is exactly as before (error msg, need to manually select a url to get around program hang, default homepage is searchpage.html).

Has anyone experienced this before?

I used Adaware which identified several problematic files which I isolated and deleted. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. Ultimately I went into IE's Tools Internet options Advanced tab and deselected the Enable Instal On Demand (Other) box and this solved the problem. I will download and make a pass with "Hijack This" tonight just to be safe. Thanks for the informative reply.
