C++ Runtime Error in Outlook 2002 due to Norton Internet Security

Encountered a problem when changing profile in Outlook
2002. Error message of Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error
in office10\outlook.exe

Suspect the problem is due to the Norton Anti Spam program
in the latest Norton Internet Security 2004 version.

Tried Outlook after uninstalling Norton and it works but
once I installed Norton back, the error occurs. Tried to
configure to remove the Com Add-in under Outlook but it
automatically switches back on after removing the check
and even after turning it off in Norton.

What can be done since Outlook does not support multiple
hotmail accounts?

Usually after the error outlook will close and then you should be able to
open it again with not errors. That is usually the most common error with
NIS and outlook. I have this problem with my system, and Norton does not
have a fix. You can go to there website and put in a trouble ticket for
free. The more people complain the sooner they will fix it.

Hi guys, I am having the same exact problem. I just installed Norto
Internet Security over the weekend, and now every time I logon to m
profile, Outlook crashes. I can open it up the second time, but the
Outlook has to check the status of the personal folders since they wer
not closed correctly. Very frustrating. Have either of you found an
fixes yet?

I have had as much trouble trying to reply to this message as I did wit
the problem (obviously a bit of a stretch, but...)

Anyway, I think I've found the solution to this one - YEEEAAAHHH!!

I somehow left a message with Microsoft and someone called me bac
(WOW!) and walked me through the following.

Here's the problem: A Norton Internet Security add-in file doesn'
work well with Outlook (2002 only?)

Here's the solution: Disable the file causing the problem.

Here's how: Go to Windows Explorer (Start, My Computer)

Navigate to the following folder: Local Disk (C:), Program Files
Common Files, Symantec Shared, Antispam.

Go to the following file: MSOUPLUG.dll (Not case sensitive)

(If your file extensions don't show, change your view so you see th
file extensions, however, I have NIS 2004, and this was the only fil
in the folder that started with MSO...)

The tech had me RENAME this file by changing the extension from .dll t
.OLD (again, not case sensitive)

It worked like a charm - I'm happy. It was an annoying problem.

It is a problem with outlook 2003. And since you disable that feature
norton doesn't catch antispam which is nice to have, this fix is a band-aid,
not a solution.
