Buying new Windows XP Professional

Rainy

Hi Bruce, I tend to agree with you.. however, this particular seller has
worked very heard to build up a business on Ebay, with over 7400 items
sold.. and 99.3 percent positive feedback.. Yes he could come back with a
new email but he would lose all that he has built up.. My son sells on Ebay,
so I know something about the way it works. I don't believe this particular
seller will do that. He could.. but I doubt it for one sale! Rainy.

generic?

Why ever not? I purchased a GENUINE, generic OEM copy of Windows 2000 that
was PERFECTLY legit!
You just have to be very careful in reading the description.

"Generic" OEM media is manufactured by Microsoft itself, while MANY
OEMs produce very poor imitations of the Microsoft holograms. Compare
a "pull" from say, HP, with a genuine "Generic" OEM manufactured by
MIcrosoft. You will see a big difference in the holograms, as well as
the COA sticker.

By the way, selling "pulls" is a breach of the Microsoft XP OEM
agreement. I certainly wouldn't purchase one, since such media is
many times not able to be activated via the Internet. (NOTE that I
stated "Many times", not "ALL the time".)

means it's not tied to any particular vendor like Dell for example.

Rainy, you are much closer to the truth than one might expect. Genuine
"Generic" OEM media is manufactured by Microsoft itself, while the
others are manufactured by the OEMs.

Well you'd bet wrong then!
It was unopened and had a genuine MS hologram on it.....

1) Were the holograms "edge-to-edge"?
2) Were the holograms VERY DISTINCT?
3) Were there SEVERAL holograms on the disc?
4) If it was PRO, were the color of the holograms "reddish"?

If you can't answer "Yes" to ALL FOUR questions, then it most probably
WASN'T "Genuine generic OEM media manufactured by Microsoft".

(I don't know what color the Home holograms are, but the other three
questions must all be answered with "Yes" if it is genuine.

Umm I was talking about Windows 2000 - there IS no "home" edition of Windows
2000.....

Sorry, Gordon, I just assumed you were keeping within the original
subject, "Buying new Windows XP Professional", so I replied as if you
were. I guess I could have read a little more carefully. But I have
many newsgroups to review, and don't always take the time I should.
