Business Contact Manager Toolbar

Hi,

I'm running Outlook XP and have installed Business Contact Manager (BCM) as
well, which added a toolbar to Outlook. This has been the case for several
months now. Yesterday, all of a sudden, no BCM toolbar. It's not even in the
View|Toolbars menu so I can turn it on. Any idea what may be causing that?

Thanks

I'm confused by your post. BCM is not compatible with Outlook 2002. It
requires Outlook 2003.

First thing to check is Help | Microsoft Outlook -- click Disabled Items.

Hi Sue,

I'm not sure what you mean. I checked Microsoft Outlook Help for Disabled
Items and for Business Contact Management and just about every entry there
uses the Business Tools menu or the toolbar, both of which I cannot see
anymore. I checked my Currently Installed Programs list and BCM for Outlook
2003 is still there. Can you please clarify a little more what I need to do?

Thanks

Since it's not showing up in Disabled Items, you'll have to dig a little
deeper -- into the registry. Run Regedit and go to the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.BusinessSolutions.eCRM.OutlookAddin.Connect.1
key. If the value for LoadBehavior is something other than 3, make a backup
of the registry, edit LoadBehavior to set it to 3, then restart Outlook.

If BCM does not load even after you edit the LoadBehavior registry value, or
if the database does not load, you should initiate a support incident with
Microsoft at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;incidentsubmit. You
will need a .Net Passport, but there should be no charge for filing the
request for help.

Sue,

I'm sorry I didn't explain myself well. How do I check Disabled Items? The
Help menu doesn't have a "Micorsoft Outlook" selection. And the Microsoft
Office Outlook Help takes me straight to the standard Help, where, when I
searched for Disabled Items, I got the list I mentioned earlier where just
about every entry referenced the Business Tools menu or the BCM toolbar.

Can you please shed more light on what you meant by "Check Help | Microsoft
Outlook -- click Disabled Items." ?

Thanks for your help and time.

There's a button on the Help | About Microsoft Outlook dialog labeled
Disabled Items.

Thanks for the clarification, Sue. Disabled Items shows none, and RegEdit
shows the key value you referred to as 3 which I guess is the correct value.
So I guess I need to initiate a support incident as per your instructions.

Thank you for your help and for getting me to this point.

Hi Sue

I have been looking through all the Knowledge Base and posts here about this
problem and cannot see a definitive answer to the problem 9that many seem to
be having).

I have spent a lot of time linking e-mails to BCM only to have the BCM
toolbars dissapear, lost links, no BCM help, etc. BCM is there as I have the
Business Contacts and History. BCM is not a disabled item, the registery
entry you mentioned is 3. I have also tried a help/detect and repair, a
re-install and applied the Outlook 2003 CBM sp1 update, all with no success.
When this happened last time, (yes I also lost a lot of time then!), the only
solution was to uninstall Office 2003 and re-install it, then BCM. This
really irks me as I have to do a lot of re-establishing of the office, and
particularly Outlook 2003 environment.

Is there ANY news on how to addres this issue?! BCM is neat and does what I
need it to do (track contacts). I am desperate!

Try shutting down Outlook, renaming outcmd.dat (which holds all toolbar
settings) and then restarting Outlook.

If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest that you initiate a support incident
with Microsoft at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;incidentsubmit. You
will need a .Net Passport, but there should be no charge for filing the
request if you have a retail version of Office.

Hi Sue

I came back 12 hours later only to have the same problem re-surface. No
help, correct registry entry for loading BCM, no disabled items, no BCM
toolbar! I tried the same fix (renaming the outcms.dat file but this time, no
success, no change to the status of BCM. I can see and view the BCM folders,
but cannot link e-mail to BCM, no help on the BCM root folder or Outlook
help.

What now!!?? Any ideas? I have (as mentioned before) loaded the Outlook BCM
SP1.

I was about to say the same thing. Just by chance I removed my PocketPC
while the system was in standby. WHen trying to run Outlook, it took forever
to start up (I had closed it prior to going into Standby), then just
vanished. I started it again and noticed two Outlook applications in my Task
Manager for about a half minute. One of them then disappeared, and the other
finally synch'ed itself with my e-mail accounts, and, voila, I got my BCM
toolbar back. Unlike Lee, I did not have to reboot my PC to get to where I
am.

Hope this helps too, and thanks to all who contributed to this thread.
