.I have a hp 2800+ and it is new. I am given to
understand (from the literature supplied) that if I have
a different format, then I am allowed to use that format
only five times and it will be slated for that format
after. Then later hp tells me if I contact them they can
help me change the format. So I suggest you try the maker
of your PC. Wish you luck!

You're talking about Region changes. DVDs are encoded in different regions,
depending where in the world you are. If you are in the US/Canada, all DVDs
are Region 1. If you are in Europe, all DVDs are in Region 2. What HP are
saying is that if you are in the US you can happily watch Region 1 DVDs
until the end of time. If you import a DVD from Europe, you will have to
change the region of the DVD player to Region 2. You can do that ONLY five
times.... On the 5th region change, the drive becomes 'locked' to that
region.

It's NOTHING to do with burning DVDs from whatever format you choose to do
so.
