Burning - CDs rejected

When I insert a new, blank CD to burn music, I keep getting the "Insert CD"
pop-up box ....my burner evidently does not recognize the CD I inserted. I
have XP home edition and WMP 11. This problem just started occuring about a
week ago, after three years of no problems. I am having this problem with WMP
and also with Winamp. Any ideas?

How do I access the burner in order to clean it....or, if that doesn't work,
how do I go about buying a new burner? Are they available in stores like Best
Buy and Circuit City and could an average person hook them up?

Push the button on the front of the burner so it opens and then you
can use a compressed air cannister to blow into it to clean it. You can
buy burners at stores like BestBuy, Circuit City, Radio Shack and also
on eBay.com where you can get the best deals. If you are not familiar with
buying and replacing it, and it looks that way, suggest you get a friend
with some experience to assist you. A PC repair shop will charge you
"an arm and a leg" for this simple procedure.

Thanks for the info.....I presume by "the front of the burner", you mean the
lower tray on the front of my computer (the E drive) that opens to insert a
blank CD. I will try spraying it as you say, and if no luck, will proceed as
you suggested. I also tried to see if there was an upgrade to the CD burning
driver, but found none. And my diagnosis tool said my unit was okay anyway,
and didn't need anything fixed. Thanks again.
