burning a dvd: what a pain in the ass

All right, I'll try that.
Got another question for you. I record the services at my church. I convert
them to MP3 format for people to download to put on CD. I also convert them
to WMA for the poor creatures that only get 24kbps or 56kbps dial up out in
the country. Do you know how I can convert these wav files to wma now that
my sound editing program no longer works?
thanks for your help

Sound Recorder can accept line in and will save in wma. Movie Maker can also
edit sound (a movie without pictures) and is smart enough to save
pictureless movies in wma, just import the wav file, drag to the audio part
of the timeline, then File menu -Publish Movie (as only sound will be wma).

Ah yes, the great help and support section that says when I insert a blank
DVD a dialog box will magically appear and ask me what I want to do with
the
blank disc.

It doesn't. No dialog appears when I insert blank discs.

Must be another thing that went fubar in the wonderful in-place upgrade.

Of course the Help and Support system doesn't tell me what to do when I
insert a blank disc and nothing happens.

My suggestion ...
since you are so unhappy with vista, why not take it off your pc and go back
to whatever you had before.

If you must convert to mp3, make CD from wma in media player, then rip cd
with media player with format set to mp3.

If I remember right there is somethings called Smart music or smart
audio converter that does what you want and is very simple to use.
Should be lots of shareware and free programs that convert between
various file formats over at Tucows. One of the biggest sites for
sampling all kinds of software. Rated by "cows", the more the better.

It is a simple task to burn a DVD.

Select what you want and use the send to menu.

But that only works for making data dvds, correct?
Done.

Now if for some reason you didn't partition your drive with enough space
for the temp image that's not vista's fault.

That's yours.

I don't have a problem burning DVD's in Nero or the built in tool.
You seem to have a system littered with old software.
Have a good cleanup.

Since you are so smart how about convincing M$ to stop these
worthless "upgrades"?

Contrary to some, I like Vista. Sorry you don't.

I generally like Vista especially on a new PC. Mmy point was why
does M$ issue upgrades and software to supposedly make it happen when
MVPs turn around and say upgrades suck, do a clean install?

Some MVP don't have a clue what they're talking about. ;-)

I upgraded from XP pro SP2 without problem to Vista Business doing a
install in place and I've got a system with well over a million files
taking over 2 TB, not GB. Worked fine. Took a hour. Just be sure you
have backup for everything first and disable everything you don't
absolutely need to install the new OS. All you should need is the one
drive you're planning on installing to, a keyboard, a mouse and a DVD
drive. Everything else turn off, disconnect or disable then put it
back ONCE Vista is up and running. Worked for me. Except for SATA.
Grrr. ;-)

Because down through the ages, it has been found that a clean install gives
a person the least amount of problems, especially when he has already tried
an upgrade install and has encountered countless issues.

I just wanted to let you know how much I loved your post, I laughed so hard,
but not at you but at myself because I have been testing MS Vista Beta for
about 8 months now and I did a clean install. After that I can't burn a dam
thing, I was lucky to get my printer to work LOL and it doesn't work all the
time. I getting ready to do another clean install of the Vista Ultimate, but
put on hold because of key code problems. Oh well here I go again.Sorry I
don't have an answer for you, just wanted you to know your not the only one
with this problem and many more.

You got to love newbies that don't have a clue. <giggle>

In newsgroups like this you see so many people over and over doing yet
another "clean" install hoping that will fix whatever was "broke" only
to have the same problems all over again. Doing a clean install hoping
it will fix things is like putting a loaf of moldy bread in the
freezer and taking it out a few days later and oh my gosh when it
defrosts, your bread is STILL modly.

Hint: If something is wrong with your install of Vista or any OS, then
you need to find and fix what caused the problem, not just try
installing over and over hoping like magic whatever the problem was
will go away all by itself.

Just the subject of this post impressed me! An OS that causes
Hemorrhoids?!?! Use Vista with witch hazel! ;)
