Burned CD's ALWAYS skip

I recently got a new computer and high speed access so I
could legally download music and burn CDs but have run
into a problem...

I got some files from Wal-mart and since they have some
type of a licensing file I have not been able to burn them
on any player other than Windows Media. However, when I
put together 2 or 3 playlists and burn the CDs I have
found that almost every CD skips (I am using Sony blank
CDs)...I think (not sure) that the first one I burn
doesn't skip, but the next 2 do...they not only skip, but
there is usually one track that is blank and the player
just sticks there - only moves if I manually click to the
next track. Is there something I am doing incorrectly or
could do to fix this? Also, is there anyway to make a CD
with both songs from Wal-mart and from Itunes?

Thx,

Jeanie

Before you pull your hair out, try playing the CD in a couple of
different CD players. Not all CD players can handle CD-R discs
properly, although virtually all new units do.

Let me know,
Ian.

I have tried it in 2 portable CD players, a new car CD
player, and my computer. They skip in all players. I
have created 8 Cds on Windows media and 6 of them skip.
Any advice would be appreciated!

I have never used Windows Media Player to burn CDs, but the standard
advice to avoid burning "coasters" is to disable background apps while
burning; particularly your antivirus, burn at a slower speed, and try a
different brand of CD-R media if that doesn't help.

Did any other CD burning software come bundled with your CD burner or
with your PC? Nero or Easy CD Creator basic versions are often
included- take a look through the discs that came with your computer, or
the burning software might have com pre-installed. One reason I've
never tried WMP for burning is that I read about so many people having
problems with it. If nothing came bundled with your system, you might
want to have a look at the freeware "Deep Burner:"
http://www.deepburner.com/ Many folks in the alt.comp.freeware group
recommend it, although I haven't used it personally. Although you were
saying that you were confined to using WMP because of the licensing
restrictions on the files as I recall... They must be .wma files, then.

I think if you try burning at a slower speed while doing nothing else on
your computer, with a different brand of blank CD-R, and you still
aren't able to create a decent audio CD, it *might* be a hardware (CD
burner) issue and it might be time to contact the people you bought the
PC from.

The original music files do play just fine, right? Have you tried
burning music files from a source other than Wal-Mart, like from your
own CDs?

Regards,
Ian.

Slow your recording speed to 12x or slower.
Don't use WMP to burn CDs. I believe Nero 6 can burn DRM-enabled WMAs.
Don't buy your music from Wal-Mart!

Thanks - I will try making sure nothing else is running.
I did get some other burners with the computer, and have
had no trouble burning on them...mostly I have used
itunes, because as far as I know the only place to play
their file format is on their program...and, I have had
no problem with those CDs. I did rip from some CDs, but,
I think I did that on iTunes...will try on Windows
media...I'm no longer going to purchase off of Walmart,
so it will not be an issue.

Thanks for all your help - will post and let you know if
it works.
