burn cd - JC

When I burn music on a cd, I cannot play it on my car cd, but I can on my
portable cd. I am using cd+rw medium. Is there a certain kind of medium I
need to use and how can I tell?

Also is it possible to add music onto a cd that already has music on it? It
seems like you have to erase all data on cd and then add the song to your
playing list and re-record on the cd. Is there a way just to add to the
already existing music?

Some car CD players will not accept CDA or WMA files/songs. Most do accept
MP3s. You can convert to a different version or burn a data disk instead of
a music
disk. You cannot add songs to a CD-R that is finalyzed even if there is only
one song on it. Burning a CD-R but not finalyzing it you can add to. But,
non finalyzed CDs will not play. WMP finalizes automatically after burn.
If you
use Nero or Roxio they will ask you if you want to finalize the disk.

Your're answer helped me, but you talked about CD-R and now CD-RW. Is it
possible to add songs to a CD that already has songs on it? Or do you have
to burn all over again?

Some cd players will only play standard manufactured cd's, It's trial to
error as to what formats it will play. You could contact the manufacturer

Using Windows Explorer you can rightclick the song and click Properties
to see what type of file/song format it is. If you use a CD-RW and have
formatted the disk which is called packet writing you can add, delete, change,
rename just like you do on your harddrive but it may not play in any CD
player.
Burning a CD-RW may or may not play, trial and error in your players will
give you the answer. Some even play in DVD players.
