bullets keep reappearing after I delete and save

I am working in PPT 2003 and want no bullet on the first line of several
slides (not all, just sometimes). I've tried pressing backspace, clicking on
the bullet icon to remove, and saving as, but after I save and quit, they
reappear the next time I open the document. I'm familiar with Masters and
templates and all, but this document that someone else created is baffling
me. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

It's caused by a bug. One workaround is to copy the textbox and paste it on
the slide. Then delete the original placeholder or change the slide layout
to "title only."

Thanks. That worked for a short-term solution, but it's never happened before
a couple days ago when I received a PPT 2002 file from a freelancer. I have
hundreds of presentations in PPT 2003 where they don't "reappear" and just
now it started happening. Do you know if there are any fixes or patches to
help?

It's not the freelancer's fault, nor is there a hotfix or patch that
resolves it. I don't know exactly what causes it to happen.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827759/en-us has a description of the issue.

Oddly enough, I kept thinking and looking for solutions, and thought to take
a PPT document where it WASN'T happening (one with an older template and
created 6 months ago) and start with that as the Master. Now it seems to be
working and sticking. Just thought I'd give up an update, but still don't
know why either. Thanks for your help!
