bulk emails - how many email addresses can you send to

E

Eric Kaplan

Two questions for anyone out there listening:

1) How many addresses can you send one email to? In other
words, how big of distribution can a bulk email go out to

2) I know one way to accomplish this is to a bulk e-mail
using my Contacts. However, they are not in my contacts.
It is separate file i could import, but how big of a file
can you import.

I want to send this to 45,000 people on our mailing list.

Thanks in advance.

Check with your ISP or whomever is your e-mail provider. If it isn't a
commercial or business account, they'll limit the number of RCPT-TO
commands to somewhere under 100, 50, or maybe only 25. They may also
place a quota on how many e-mails you can send per day. Only your ISP
can answer the question. Since you didn't already ask your ISP,
presumably you are trying to mass mail from a personal account and will
violate your ISP's terms of service - and they'll close your account.

spamming?

1) Contact your ISP for this. I doubt that they will be very happy when you
do this unannounced unless it's in your contract with them. It's quite
likely that they've limited the ammount of people you can send one message
to.

2) Import is limited to the limit of the folder you want to import in.
Example; if you can only store 15MB in your mailbox the limit on importing
contact is 15MB. There is no limit on the amount of contacts you can import.

Just a tip; if this is a one time mailing it's better to use a specialized
marketing company for this. If this will occur on regular intervals contact
your ISP talk through your possibilities; you might need to upgrade your
contract with them and they can also ask you to send the mail when the line
and server is used the least (like at night).

Good luck!
