built-in Roxio in XP Pro...

Hi Guys,

I seem to have problems when I install Roxio 6 Platinum software on to XP
Pro...

When I try to access a CDRW disk with it installed, my computer begins to
freeze, I can't get the CD out of the drive, "Drag-to-Disc" in Roxio also
freezes. I have to restart by the reset button.

When I uninstalled Roxio, all seemed fine when I put in the CDRW disk.
Reads perfectly, am able to write/read to it with the built in Roxio
software in XP Pro.

Is there a way to disable the built-in Roxio so I can install the actual
burning software to make music, data, mixed, boot, etc CD's / DVD's?

Another strange problem is when I would burn a music CD using Roxio 6, it
seems like my screen "flashes" a bit, and when I try to change an option in
Roxio to burn at slower speeds, it resets back to the fastest available
speeds (I get buffer under runs if I use the highest setting). Could this
also be conflicting with the built in Roxio in XP?

To turn off XPs built in burning software right click your CD Writer icon
and select Properties->Recording Tab. Uncheck box that enables recording on
this device.

You would do well to read through Alex Nichol's page here

Thanks,

I just tried that. I uninstalled and reinstalled Roxio 6 and I got the same
results as before.

Actually, I can add that the freezing up only happens when I insert a UDF
formatted disk, not an ISO. ISO works from with the Roxio 6. The link you
gave me is great, but did not give me any info on freezing problems using
UDF formatted disks.

There's a whole bunch of RW discs in UDF back from last year burned with
Direct CD using UDF. Anyone run into this problem? :(

The inbuilt software can be turned off at My Computer - r-click on the
drive, Properties and uncheck 'Enable' on the Recording page.

I would then uninstall any traces of CD burning you have - delete any
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Spftware\Adaptec or \roxio or \ahead (ie Nero) keys
in the registry with regedit, and tidy it up, by getting a registry
patch file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract
it, r-click on it and merge it into the registry
Reboot, then proceed with the Easy CD 6 install. ANd just the two basic
items as a start, leave the Media center etc till later
