BUG: Windows XP deletes a ..\ level file when a folder is deleted

Hello World !

Welcome to the world of Microsoft and the Microsoft Gimmics...

When I type DIR at a command prompt I see the following files:

<file> default.htm
<folder> default_files

When I delete the default_files folder, XP decides it will delete other
files as well, even though there is NO visible connection between the
files. What I did was edited the default.htm file and changed all the
links to point to a new a folder, images. I then created the new
folder images and moved the files from default_files to the images
folder. I then deleted the default_files folder, and XP decided to
delete the default.htm file as well.

This is a bug because:

1) When I moved the files from one folder to another, XP does NOT
change the links within the file to match the move.
2) I did NOT tell XP to delete default.htm.
3) Compare this to being a Ford where you went to put on a
non-Firestone tire, and the whole car decides to blow up.

My suggestion: Either put a "documented" feature into place or stop
the automation gimmics altogether.

This is a feature of the Windows shell that has been around
for a while. You can control how Windows manages these
special pairs of files (because the folder is used to store
images in that saved web page)
Open My COmputer > Tools > Folder Options > [View] >
Managing pairs of Web pages and Folders, change to Show
both pairs and manage them individually.
This is NOT a bug.

Thanks,

This is how that was set up:

* Show and manage the pair as a single file.
Show both parts and manage them individually.
Show both parts and manage as a single file.

Okay, that makes sense when you delete the folder and it deletes
the file. But it's a bug when you move the files (via Ctrl + X and
Ctrl + V) to another folder and the XP does NOT in turn update
the respective links within the managed file. Because at this point
even though the items are managed as a single file, it is NOT
managed as a single file. And conversely, IF you edit the .htm
document and change the location of the files within the .htm, XP
does NOT move the files to the new place. They either need to
do automation right and proper or forget about it altogether.

I have a new analogy for America's Favorite car and tires...
In effect what is happening above, is similar to driving your
Ford on it's new FireStone tires, and telling the cruise control to
drive at 25MPH and stop at all stop signs, then drive straight
through the intersection with the stop sign, but Ford decides to
turn your car left at all stop signs instead and occasionally run
over and delete a stop sign.

Thanks for your explanation.
