Bug on Graphs

A

Alexander

When I create a presentation which includes a lot of graphs and I try to open
a second presentation on the same style (graph heavy), I lose the labels and
sometimes even whole graphs from both presentations. Data is not displayed
correctly.

PowerPoint 2007. It loses the labels with the titles and the ones with the
numbers of data (from excel). The graph (if it is displayed) seems to have
the right data. This happens only to its native format pptx

If the axis labels turn into numbers (remember, we can't see what's
happening there, so we're relying on your descriptions -- "loses the labels"
doesn't tell me what really is happening), then try running Diagnostics.

Hi I have the same problem.
I have two presentations with 10 slides each. Every slide has a chart
diagram with data labels that display the value. I get all sorts of errors.
But the simplest one is that if I try to open both those 2 presentations many
slides will appear to be empty.
It is really frustrating and I can’t work with chart if I want to display
labels. I run Office diagnostics but everything seems to be ok. After that
when I try to close powerpoint I get an error message
I have 2 particular pptx presentations that I can upload for you to see for
you self. Please tell me where you would like me to do this.

EventType : officelifeboathang P1 : powerpnt.exe P2 : 12.0.4518.1014
P3 : ntdll.dll P4 : 5.1.2600.2180

The officelifeboathang thing seems to be an issue with Excel. How did you
insert the charts into your presentation? Since PPT 2007 uses Excel for its
charting, it could be that you just used Insert | Chart. But maybe you
pasted a chart from an Excel sheet into PPT or something instead?

Anyway, see
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...&tid=c89c9d5b-159f-490f-b161-381de914288a&p=1
-- some of the suggestions there might help.

So I'll try to turn off "auto save" in excel and see what will happen. I
don’t use copy paste from excel. I create graphs in PowerPoint using
powerpoint’s templates and I insert values there. Is there a way to send you
2 presentations to see for your self?

A

Alexander

I'm going to write the whole procedure on how to reconstruct the error.
I'm using Windows XP fully updated and Office 2007 Profesional Edition Greek
also fully updated. Product code: X12-88317
1) I create a new blank presentation
2) I insert a new chrt from "Insert" -> "Chart"
3) I double-click on the chart I wish to add
4) I use the sample data that is shown on excel to the right
5) I close excel window
6) I right-click on each of the different colored bars (or whatever the
graph is) and I add "data labels"
7) I create a new slide
8) I click the graph icon in the second box (which opens the "insert graph")
9) I do the steps from 3 to 6
10) I create 10 slides using the same procedure (with different graphs each
time)
11) I save the file to My documents
12) I create a new blank powerpoint presentation (after I close the old one)
13) I create (with the same way) another 10 slides full of graphs
14) I save this file to My Documents also
15) I close the file and I open the first presentation
16) After the presentation is fully loaded I open the second one.
90% of the times I do this, both powerpoint presentations (even the one that
was already opened), lose randomly, axis labels, Data labels and even the
whole graph. On each slide seperatly. Other slides might be full and others
might be blank.

Check it and tell me. I also tried to disable excel's autosave but nothing
happened

Thank you. I will try this once I have a clean Ofice 2007 installation back
up and ready to go. (My Vista/Office 2007 computer crashed yesterday.) I'm
pretty sure it will be fine here, though -- I've not noticed anything like

Have you run the Office Diagnostics?

You might also want to change your hardware acceleration.

Oh, you know what? I do have one last idea. It will seem weird, but make

News? My last suggestions were to install a Windows-certified printer driver
and set it as the default printer, and also to call Microsoft Product

acceleration. http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm

Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, I can't reproduce
this. The bad new is, I can't reproduce this. :)

That means it's probably not a problem with PowerPoint specifically, but
probably something unique to your system.

I forgot to suggest that you turn down hardware acceleration. Here are
instructions to do that: http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm

I'm using Windows XP fully updated and Office 2007 Profesional Edition
Greek
also fully updated. Product code: X12-88317
1) I create a new blank presentation
2) I insert a new chrt from "Insert" -> "Chart"
3) I double-click on the chart I wish to add
4) I use the sample data that is shown on excel to the right
5) I close excel window
6) I right-click on each of the different colored bars (or whatever the
graph is) and I add "data labels"
7) I create a new slide
8) I click the graph icon in the second box (which opens the "insert
graph")
9) I do the steps from 3 to 6
10) I create 10 slides using the same procedure (with different graphs
each
time)
11) I save the file to My documents
12) I create a new blank powerpoint presentation (after I close the old
one)
13) I create (with the same way) another 10 slides full of graphs
14) I save this file to My Documents also
15) I close the file and I open the first presentation
16) After the presentation is fully loaded I open the second one.
90% of the times I do this, both powerpoint presentations (even the one
that
was already opened), lose randomly, axis labels, Data labels and even the
whole graph. On each slide seperatly. Other slides might be full and
others
might be blank.

Check it and tell me. I also tried to disable excel's autosave but nothing
happened

If the axis labels turn into numbers (remember, we can't see what's
happening there, so we're relying on your descriptions -- "loses the
labels"
doesn't tell me what really is happening), then try running Diagnostics.
It's under the Office Button | PPT Options | Resources.

PowerPoint 2007. It loses the labels with the titles and the ones with
the
numbers of data (from excel). The graph (if it is displayed) seems to
have
the right data. This happens only to its native format pptx

:

Which version of PowerPoint. And what do you mean by "data is not
displayed
correctly"? Can you give us some specific examples?

When I create a presentation which includes a lot of graphs and I
try
to
open
a second presentation on the same style (graph heavy), I lose the
labels
and
sometimes even whole graphs from both presentations. Data is not
displayed
correctly.
