Bug in Q811493 Patch

K

Karl PASKOVSKY

On Systems with Asus P4B Motherboards is not possible to
install the Security Patch Q811493 , even not with the
newest BIOS update.

On system boot, at time the graphic card drivers are
loaded (tested with few Hercules and ATI AGP cards) the
system crashes and can be started only in secured mode.

After deinstalling the Q811493 patch, every think is OK.
Also on systems with other motherboards, generate this
patch unexpected system crashes from time to time.

It will be nice, to get a final patch which works or work
around ideas. Thanks.

hotfix Q811493 the security exploit that this hotfix
addresses requires that an attacker have physical access
to your computer (like in an office or work enviroment)if
you are like most of us a home user "you do not need this
update" remove it. read the technical details on this fix
and you will see that this is true.

I also have this "crashing" problem with 811493 (all incarnations of it)
Your reply is true as far as it goes, most of us just do not need 811493,
but it ignores the real problem of what happens when 811493 is rolled up
into "XP Service Pack 2" ???

Are we then going to find we cannot install SP2 (which will no doubt
contain other patches that we will need).

What we need is a proper fix to 811493, not just a simple workaround of "
remove it".

Chris.

Both the defective (pre end May) and the later one installed on mine?
And I can see no reason why this particular patch has any connection
with the motherboard BIOS
