Bug in explorer.exe

XP home edition has a bug in explorer.exe.

It only occurs when this is done from the root directory.

When you have Owner selected and do a sort, you get the "Windows has
encountered a problem..."

Is there a fix?

Does it also occur in XP Pro?

Thanks,
Andy

Fascinating. Whatever made you do that? :)

I don't know. I guess it happens because hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys have
no owner, and it crashes when trying to sort them.

Yes it does.

A known bug on XP, caused by empty owner & access violation on pagefile.sys.

John

Where am I supposed to be seeing something named "Owner" in the root
directory of Explorer??

I am apparently misunderstanding the question.

Files in NTFS have numerous attributes. To see what the possibilities are,
right-click on the panel (in Windows Explorer) that has "Name" on it, and select
"More...". You'll see all possible attributes that you can display, and sort by,
in your system.

Right. :)

Ahh....THAT "owner". He could have been a little more descriptive.....
Thanks.

Moving off topic ....... !

Hi Glen

I note there's a photograph of you here http://www.aumha.org/vsop.php
(but *still* no 'bio'!)

The link refers to AumHa VSOPs for 2006. At the bottom of the page it
says "Awards are made in April of each year ..." but for the life of
me I cannot find details of more up-to-date awards.

Please can you point me in the right direction to find same?

Thanks in advance

AumHa is Jim Eshelman's site, and he's been pre-occupied for some time
with both professional and personal activities, so there haven't been
any new or updated VSOP Awards for quite a while. Apparently the
current list is remaining as long as they are still active on the
site.....that group has remained about the same for a few years.

For the same reason, I was not able to submit a bio because only Jim is
able to add them, and he has largely given over admin tasks to a couple
of other moderators who do not have the permissions to add bio info. No
big deal....my bio would be boring anyway!
