BUG: Cannot Deploy Smart Device Application After You Remove and Reinstall
ActiveSync
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813579

I got the same error but my computer is already installed vs.net2003 before
i install the activeSync and version is 3.8 (so i didn't do uninstall &
re-install.....and my version is not 3.5 neither)

would the same problem occur in this version of activeSync?

if so, are there any other method rather than re-install vs.net? (and i
don't have the original registry key too or any one can post the registry
key to me?)

as my computer is managed by university and it is not convenient to get disc
from them and re-install it. thanks a lot for your help~

From readme:

I uninstalled ActiveSync and then reinstalled it. Now I can't deploy my
application. How do I fix this?
Issue: After uninstalling ActiveSync version 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 or 3.71,
deploying fails with the error message "There were deployment errors.
Continue?" This typically happens when one version of ActiveSync is
uninstalled and a newer version is installed.

Solution: Uninstalling these versions of ActiveSync removes some registry
settings that are required for deployment. You must restore these registry
settings to enable deployment.

To restore the registry settings

1. Import ProxyPorts.reg. to the registry.

Note ProxyPorts.reg is located by default in Program Files\Microsoft
Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\WinCE Utilities\WinCE Proxy
Ports Reg.

2. Remove the device from the cradle and replace it. If deployment
still does not work, soft-reboot the device.

This is applicable to VS 2003 regardless of AS version.

Ilya
