BSOD when gaming

B

beckel

When playing games I have had many problems recently.
With games such as Battlefield 1942 and Unreal Tournament
2k3 the game dies and i get the BSOD with the following
error: stop 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xE45A2C69,
0xEBCBBAD0, 0x00000000)

And yes drivers are up to date, and yes the above games
used to work perfectly fine, and they are fully updated
and I reinstalled them even...

Hi Beckel,

Take a look at this article which references that error:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=325730 does it
look similar, albeit for different games than the ones
listed in the article? Also please note which file name
is referenced as the culprit in the BSOD it may help. :)

That shouldn't be the problem because i have upto date
drivers, and i have never any of the listed games. This
whole game crashing thing isnt really the only problem
ive been having, if i ask it to do "too many" things at
once it crashes a lot, but it really shouldnt, because
by "too many things" i mean, run winamp, have some other
window open, and then open IE, that should be no problem
(and never was prior) [AMD athalon XP 1900+, 512RAM].
When restarting if i try to preform tasks before i let it
load the majority of startup items, even small ones, it
will crash...just now i got this error (i assume the same
one as when it crashes due to too many things being run,
but i am not certain, it has not done that sense i
starteed recording what the BSOD said) :

Hi Beckel,

If you are crashing even before starting 3D games then it's not
a game issue at all. Perhaps these steps will solve the issue:

The most common causes for that problem can be solved with
these five steps. If the problem persists after you've tried these,
please post back and we'll try some more solutions. Good luck! :)

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

4. Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a

Hi Beckel,

Those steps can also help with that type of problem,
you can also delete the Windows Update object in
Control Panel / Internet Options / Settings... button/
View Objects... button / delete "Update Class". :)
