i had windows mulfunction so i connected the HD drive to my
second PC. but i am unable to browse "Documents and Settings\Mike"
folder - it says "Access is
denied".
please, can any1 tell me how can i get into that folder i have
very important stuff there.
i think that its because the user (Mike) was password-protected.
i know the password but the problem is that when i double-click
the folder in the explorer it doesn't ask me for password, it
just says "Access is Denied".

I read and followed the link. Step 2. click on security tab. I
don't have a security tab. I am using XP home. Please help.
How Do I Get the Security tab in Folder Properties? -

forget following that link. all you have to do is click tools in any
folder and then click options and then go to the view tab. then
take the check out of the use simple file sharing.
P.S.
Not trying to be rude Malke, but i find just telling the OP how to
solve the problem better than making them follow a link to do it.
*grin*
Then perhaps you should have read and comprehended the problem in all its
details first.
As "steve" pointed out, "I am using XP home." What that means is that your
instructions *will fail*. There is no issue with giving a URL as an
answer - considering it saves bandwidth, brings that known *good* web page
up in the Google/other search engines lists for said problem, gives a
consistent and detailed answer and can show things one cannot in plain text
on the newsgroups...
My answer for the access denied message when trying to access files is this:
How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421
Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP.
It's that last part that points out something important - since in this
case - Windows XP Home is involved. Malke's link is a little more 'to the
point', and definitely says, "...if you're running XP Home, Simple File
Sharing is enforced by default and cannot be disabled..."
BTW - a majority of this thread is almost TWO YEARS OLD... That's really
tagging onto an old post and hoping for the best if you ask me. Oh well, at
least the OP gets the answer they need and others - who may search this many
YEARS later will get the same and consistent answer. ;-)
