browser won't open pages

This is a porblem that has been brewing for a little while. Using XP Pro
with IE6. For some time have not been able to open my home page of
mail.yahoo.com, although other web pages would open. Tried to do windows
updates in attempt to fix problem, but encounteed errors there as well.
Uniinstalled all java and then reinstalled from jave site, problem still
persisted. So I decided to run a repair install from my windows cd. Now the
internet will not open at all. Network drivers are installed. Can ping my
home page or any othe website just fine, they just will not open in browser.
Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,
First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

Disable add-ons from IE>Tools> Manage add-ons. See of one of them is causing
this.

Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable your third-party firewall or security suite. See if that's the
problem.

Try ie-rereg from

Can't display- DNS Errors: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/16.html

This may be a malware problem (adware, spyware, hijacker, trojan, etc.)
A repair reinstall of XP wouldn't have removed malware files.

If you have SP2: You can go to Start | Run and type
CMD
In the command window type
netsh winsock reset
