I have Internet explorer 6.0 and also netscape 7.1 installed
I can access the internet with netscape but not IE 6.0

Is it possible to use both browsers and how do I go about
changing the default?

I think you can have as many browers as you want I have 3
on my computer, although not Netscape (IE's largest
competitor)

I found this on Tech TV's site:

"Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator both want your
browser business so badly that they do a bad thing-- they
take over for the other as the default browser each time
you install a new version. Worse still, they'll keep
asking you to switch, kind of like all those long-
distance phone companies that call you during dinner. The
default browser is the one that automatically opens when
you click an Internet address in a separate application,
such as email or a Word document, so chances are you'll
spend most of your time using the default.

Here's how you can choose one over the other:
To make IE your default browser and ditch Netscape,
launch Internet Explorer.
Under the Tools Menu, choose Internet Options.
Click the Programs tab.
At the bottom, check the box that says "Internet Explorer
should check to see if it's the default browser."
Quit IE.
Launch again and you'll see a message asking if you want
IE as your default browser.
Before you click YES, uncheck the box that says "Always
perform this check...".

It's a little trickier to make Netscape take control.
You have to actually go into the Netscape folder on your
hard drive and find the file "prefs.js".
Open Notepad and drag that file into it.
The top line should read "Netscape User Preferences". The
second says "Do Not Edit!", but we'll ignore that for
now. Look for a line that reads
user_pref("browser.wfe.ignore_def_check", true);
and change the TRUE to FALSE.
Now save the changes, quit Notepad and launch Netscape
Navigator.
Much like Internet Explorer, Navigator will not ask you
if you want it to be your default browser. BUT this time
you need to check the box before clicking YES.
Now Netscape is your default browser and won't keep
badgering you if you decide to change your mind and go
back to IE."

Rule out parasites.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
