Whenever I try to open a page with an applet on it, my
browser closes and gives me this error message (how do I
stop this from happening and how can I open an applet?
Does this have anything to do with running Windows 98SE?):

See this site for troubleshooting issues with Java:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm#java2
The easiest fix is try to install the latest MS Java VM.
