I would like to browse the web using IE without downloading graphics.

Is there a freeware add in, that will allow me to turn graphics on or off
"at the touch of a button"?

This would be a better solution for me than Tools> Internet Options>
Advanced> Turn Off Pictures.

If such a plug in is available, is there one for OUTLOOK EXPRESS too? That
way I could quickly choose to download the pictures from sources I wished to
see, and avoid the porn that comes from elsewhere.

MyIE2 is a browser shell that allows selectively turning off and on
pictures, popups, music, Flash animations, etc. It also allows cleaning up
history, cookies, etc. automatically or selectively.

There IS such a button - I used to have it installed on my
browser...came in handy when refreshing ebay auctions!

But..I removed it, and I'm not sure where the original copy of it is.
It came on a PCPlus cover disk years ago.

I have a feeling I have a machine with it still installed...will have
a look later.

Yes, download Microsoft's "Web Accessories" plug-in from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previous/webaccess/ie5wa.asp

In addition to other things, it puts a link on your IE ToolBar to toggle
images on/off on the fly.

I've been using the Microsoft image toggler for years because of my
slow dial-up connection. It's installed on the Links bar, but I
dragged a copy of the icon onto my toolbar because I don't display the
Links bar. Works fine, although I wish there was a way to tell
(without clicking on a page) whether I had it toggled on or off..

Avant is a shell for IE that has this feature as well as a LOT more. It's
very nice and free

put a tiny image (like a button or such) on an empty html page on your local
HD. Then shortcut the page to the top of your Links, even drag it into your
toolbar. Then all what you need to do, is pick this page and hit "refresh".
It loads really fast of course, and you know where you are, immediately.

EXCELLENT, thanks.

you're welcome :)
It also helps to select this local html as your startpage (tools > internet
options > general > home page), so every time you start up IE, it will
remind you, of what state you're in.

Very clever!
I've done that now - I had a blank page before, so no loss of amenity.
