Browse in same window disabled

P

pbw

Somehow I have downloaded something that disabled my fucntionality to open
folders in the same window.

When I go to My Computer\Tools\Folder Options\File Types\Folder\Advanced
.....the option to "Browse in same window" is greyed out. I have tried
researching this on the web and cannot find out how to reactivate this
option.

My registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\SeparateProcess
also shows that it has been disabled (Value Data = 0).

HELP!! What can I do to keep explorer from opening new winodws?

Thanks

Start | Run | Type: control folders | Click OK |
General tab | Select: Open each folder in the same window

If that doesn't work, go here...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top
209. Right hand side
Open Each Folder in New or Same Window
Click on Same

settingssamewindow.reg is the file you want.
My registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advance
d\SeparateProcess
also shows that it has been disabled (Value Data = 0).

SeparateProcess refers to Folder Options | View tab |
Launch folder windows in a seperate process

Launch folder windows in a seperate process
[[Specifies that each folder is opened in a separate part of memory. When
you open each folder in a separate part of memory, the stability of Windows
can be increased. However, your computer's performance might decrease
slightly.]]

Nothing wrong with it being set to 0, that's what I have.
When I go to My Computer\Tools\Folder Options\File Types\Folder\Advanced
....the option to "Browse in same window" is greyed out.

So is mine. For File Folder as well. Fugedaboutit.

I tried both of the fixes listed below and they did not correct the problem.

Any other suggestions?

Is Open each folder in the same window still checked?

If not, check it, click Apply and then click OK.

There may be other problems, try samefolderwindow.reg here...

Yes, it is still checked. However, I ran the utility samefolderwindow.reg
and it fixed my problem.

Thanks!
