Broken Picture and Music folder links

I moved my picture and music folders from my internal hard drive to my
external hard drive where I have all my media stored which was then mapped as
the 'F:' drive. My hard drive got unplugged and while it was disconnected, I
plugged in an external DVD drive which got mapped to 'F:'. Since then, when
i plug in my external hard drive, it gets mapped to 'G:' whether the DVD
drive is connected or not. So now my music and picture folders that display
in the start menu still try to open as the F:\music and F:\pictures which no
longer exist since it remapped my drive. When I right click > properties on
these folders it only gives a blank "general" tab, and no longer has the tab
to change its location like I used to move them in the first place. How can
I either remap my hard drive back to 'F:' since i currently have no drive
mapped to such, or move the location of the music and pictures folders to
their proper location on 'G:'?

You should be able to change the drive letter in Disc Management, then while
the external drive is still attached, plug in the external DVD drive and
assign it a drive letter down in the alphabet.

To remap the drive-letters, you can use the Disk Management tool (diskmgmt.msc)
-or-
Change the shell folder paths in the registry for Pictures and Music folders.

Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShell Folders

In the right pane, fix the drive-letters for Music and Pictures

Close Regedit.exe

Ramesh...I had the exact same issue, however this action or the merge action
did not fix my problem....I have a "default" header listed without a string
value...could this present the same problems?

Hi Cabadvantage,

Did you reboot once, after fixing the shell folder paths for Music and Pictures?
