broadband sending info when idle problem

Please could you help me. I have BT Broadband and have
been getting 'page cannot be displayed' errors, and the
pc is slow to respond. BT have done tests and say I have
a virus because the modem is sending information even
when idle, I have done numerous checks with Notron 2004,
AVG, AntiVir, Stinger, Spybot, Adaware, Trojan removers
etc but nothing shows. Sometimes I can be online for over
an hour with no problems, other times 3 minutes before it
returns. Any ideas?

You need better information to diagnose the problem.

If your ISP says it's sending data when idle, then you
need to investigate that further.

I'd download and install the free version of ZoneAlarm, and then
see what programs are attempting to connect out to the Internet.

When ZoneAlarm asks whether a program should be allowed to
access the Internet, make a note of the program name, and deny it initially.

Then, try permitting them untill you determine if one is causing the
problem.

Be cautious about removing malware with the various tools you mention.
Sometimes, the removal can break a chain of communication.
This can break name resolution, which can cause 'Page not found' errors.
It may be worth trying LSPfix:
