Broadband internet connection

A few days ago my broadband internet connection started to act sporadic. After restarting the computer it would remain connected for about 20 minutes, then the connection would be lost, with no apparent reason or warning. Restarting it or clicking the 'repair' button in the network connection settings helped but only for a short time. After doing this for a couple of days, the online time kept getting shorter. Yesterday, it would only remain only for no more then 30 seconds. I called my broadband provider and checked all of my settings which were all fine and they could communicate with the modem just fine, so I know it's on my end.
I downloaded the newest norton virus definitions and scanned the computer to no avail. I also purchased a spyware killer and that didn't help either. I eventually decided to format my hard drive and start all over. So, after formatting the whole thing, my connection is back to lasting for 30 minutes. I'm plum out of ideas of what it could be and how it could of survived the formatting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks ahead of time.

did you check the event viewer? Start run eventvwr.exe

Your network card could be going bad did your cable get crushed or nicked,
chewed? It could also be your cable modem if you are renting just get
another one!
