Breaking the Security

I run Access 7.0. I know its not supported any more. That may be beside the
question.

I broke the security I had placed on my MDB files in a way that I cannot
find reference to on the web. Perhaps the technique that I used works on all
Access products in your line.

Step 1. Build an application in Access using VBA extensively.
Step 2. Password protect the database *.mdb using the workgroup approach.
Step 3. Add a new drive to the computer and make it the new C: drive.
Step 4. Reinstall Windows and Office
Step 5. Run Access and load the *.mdb database from its unchanged drive
location.
Step 6. Resolve all 'Missing Components'
Step 7. Run the *.mdb database with full access without having to enter any
passwords.

This approach is not the least time consuming approach but it broke the
security and ruined my confidence in computer software security.

Same old story...

If you can open the file with a different mdw than the one used to secure
it then you didn't "break" the security because it was never applied
properly in the first place.

Read the hundreds of previous posts that pertain to opeinging a secured
database without being required to enter a password. You DID NOT follow all
the steps to properly secure your database.
