bought CD unreadable

Hey hey,

I have a bought copy of Broken Sword 2, re-released by
SoldOut Software. It has a known problem to fans that
this game will not work under windows xp (I have
windowsXP pro) as it cannot read the cd. The game used to
work fine under windows98se. The only recomendation i can
find is to install an updated driver for my cdrom drive
(s). That however prooves impossible as all companies now
rely on the MS drivers and dont release their own (except
for windows3.1/dos which i doubt would do anything under
winxp).

What can i do to get my game to work? i've tried
searching for alternative drivers but so far no joy and
am getting quite annoyed, to put it politely, with the
actual decrease in compatability between windows98se and
windowsxp.

any help is appreciated

Since you knew that there was a problem with the game and XP, why did you buy it?

Use it on a computer with Windows 98.

Have you tried compatability mode in XP?

I bought it aaages ago (by bought copy i ment a legal
copy), while still on windows98, and only found out about
the cd issue after having switched to xp for long enough
to have dug myself in, I have too much work, settings,
data stored in xp to shift back...i dont have another
computer to put win98 into and i havent enough space on
my xp machine to diddle the partitions and turn it into a
dual boot pc.

Compatability mode fixes (or fixed for a while) the
issues in broken sword 1, but xp wont even read the discs
for broken sword 2, thats whats so frustrating. You cant
set compatability mode for a drive.

use isobuster on cd1, extract files needed to play with scummvm (according to the scummvm readme), enjoy!
