Bootup prolems

Hi,

I posted a few days about a problem with my W2000 NT system. At bootup
I get the following message: 0x0000007B inaccessible_boot_device. It
seems that either the disk has bad sector or some driver has become
corrupted. i am slowly making progress.

My problem is that the software came pre-installed without systems
files and I do not have a floppy drive or a writeable CD Rom on the
system so I have not been able to make a recovery disk.

I have a copy W2000 ME and I have been able to use that to get to
command prompt. Is there any way that I can repair the disk from c:\?
I have tried to find chkdsk and it doesn't seem to be on the winnt
subdirectory or anywhere else that I can see.

Alternatively can I log onto my LAN from the c:\ prompt and rescue the
important files?

What would happen if I went ahead and installed W2000 ME on the
computer? would I wreck the 2000 NT installation?

Thanks for any help.

Joseph,

I cannot associate any particular event to the problem arising. No new
hardware was added immediately prior to the problem. I run a lot of
applications and add and remove them on a regular basis but I don't
think that I added any applications immediately prior to the problem.

I managed to run scandisk yesterday evening. Scandisk reported a
problem with the FAT table but could not replace the table. It also
reported cross-linked files etc. Is that iportant? I didn't run a
surface scan.
