BOOTSECT.DAT

this may be a simple for the experts in this group....

when I prepare a newly formatted NTFS HD with:
winnt32 /syspart:c: /tempdrive c: ... etc...
so that on re-boot, it should start the install process

I seem to get the proper files and directory structure, but when
I look at boot.ini, I see:

c:\$win_nt$.~bt\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"

then I look in the directory$win_nt$.~bt, there is no such file
bootsect.dat.

Can anyone explain, how the disk boots?

I'm using Bart's WinPE to create the disk using an XP SP2 source.

The reason I ask is because I have another HD that when I do the exact same
thing to it, it won't boot, and I can't figure out why....very frustrating.
I checked the MBR and partition info etc. I only have one primary NTFS
partition. Works with a regular IDE drive, but not a 2.5" laptop drive.

I can't seem to figure out what is being booted after the HD prep using
winnt32 /syspart:c:.....

Hi,

Are you sure you inspected using dir /a command?

If you did not, it would not show system and hidden files...
