When I turn on my computer, the green active light comes on and I hear the
computer running, but that's as far as it gets. The monitor just displays
the monitor self test that appears if just the monitor is on w/o the
computer. Help.

Swap out each component - monitor, video card, cable - one at a time and
see which one is the problem.

Trace your monitor cable down to the connection with your PC and make sure
it is connected securely. If this doesn't cure the issue, then most likely
you have an issue with hardware.
