Booting to Admin profile on its own? Virus? Profile Corruption?

Sorta have a wierd situation...........

I have two profiles setup, (Win2K SP4 all updates, AV updated blah,
blah) obviously the Admin is setup when installing windows & than I have
a profile for my name that I have set to boot up automatically to.....No
logging in.

Sometimes my machine will boot and go right to the "administration"
profile..........I don't use this profile ever.

I've restored images from previous backups I know to be trouble free
(maybe) but this issue just keeps re-appearing........So as my subject
line says, a virus maybe or profile corruption?

BTW: This is what I found in the "Application Log"

1st instance:
Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically
try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

2nd:
Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically
try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

3rd:
Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted. Contact
your administrator.

Last:

The source is "Userenv"

NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

RegLoadKey failed. Return value The configuration registry database is
corrupt. for C:\Documents and Settings\user\ntuser.dat.

I take it I answered my own question with the question...........But if
I re-boot my normal profile comes up.......Geez, I wonder what the hell
is causing this.........Baaaaah, should've left my almost 4yr install
alone, was working great till I decided to put in a spankin' new ATI
card...............

It could be drive and or controller failure. You should be able to download
a disk diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web site.

Excellent point.....I did have a slight issue with one of my controllers
not listing all attached items...........Hmmmmmmmmmm, good call Dave,
funny ya mentioned that.......Are you psychic?
