Booting from my Windows XP disk

H

Howard Brazee

I rebooted my computer (from the shutdown menu) and it came up with a
Trap 00000006 error.

I went to another computer and googled the problem, and it looks as
though I need to boot up with my Windows XP Pro CD to start off with
(I'm not sure what to do then).

Trouble is, I haven't figured out how to boot to CD. My computer
tells me I can hit SHIFT-F10 to get to the setup menu, and if I do I
get a screen asking me if I want a flash recovery. I can also get a
choice for boot order between:
Rom Disable
Int 18h
Int 19h
Pnp/Bev(Bss)

I kept it at Int 18h, as I don't know how to boot using other
computers on the network. But I don't know how to pull up the big
menu that lists booting from various drives.

I did try pressing ESC, and the last attempt got a trap FFFFFFFF (and
other errors all had FFFF as the number).

Primary channel Drive 0 not found, Secondary Channel drive 0 & drive 1
not found.

This sound like the drive controller or mobo may have failed. Try resetting
cmos to default.
